Why isn't my Modbus communication working over RS485 ?
A.
Usually the issue is with RS485 wire termination, connection or device setup. First thing to do is to check that the A(+) and B(-) lines are connected to the matching A(+) and B(-) . Next check device baud rate , slave address and data bits. If still not working add a termination register of around 120 ohm at the end of the communication line.

How many devices can be connected to the serial interface of the EnergyLogicIQ-Gen ?
A.
EnergyLogicIQ-Gen only support pre integrated devices like flow meters, energy meters and various generator controller hardware. Hardware can support 10 numbers of devices on RS485 port but software application will recognize only those devices that are supported by the device.

My device is not coming online. How do I determine what the problem is ?
A.
If the communication with the connected device fails with the server application, there might be a probability that something is not correct with the SIM. Do carry out troubleshooting by connecting your laptop/PC with the EnergyLogicIQ-Gen hardware debug port. Further details about debugging explained is User Manual
Q?
I have my generator serviced quarterly, why would I need a monitor system ?
A.
Well! servicing quarterly does not guarantee that generator status is good. There is further concern about fuel reconciliation, and generator efficiency. Monitoring systems guarantee you to plan servicing not on quarterly but on run hours or generation basis. This is a more efficient way of servicing the generator.

How will I know if there is an alarm or fault with my generator ?
A.
You will be notified immediately either by email or push notifications.

Can I use any local SIM card?
A.
Yes, but the SIM card should have GPRS and incoming SMS enabled.

We have sites in multiple states/countries. Can I observe all of them from one web page ?
A.
Yes, you can view all your generators on a map.

Can I have GPS facility ?
A.
Yes. We have a GPS version as well. You need to order the GPS model.

I don't receive my notifications instantly when my generator status changes. What's wrong ?
A.
There is nothing wrong in the system, you need to configure the alarm for state change. Sometimes SMS alarms are delivered after some delay due to network congestion.

How long is data stored in EnergyLogicIQ-Gen ?
A.
Data will logged in the internal memory of EnergyLogicIQ in case of no network coverage.

How do I Can Know fuel consumption of each generators, consuming from common tanks ?
A.
Consumption of fuel by each generator can be measured by installing a flow sensors on the main line and return line of each generator. Fuel totalizer will calculate net fuel consumed by each generator. This system will give you information regarding fuel consumption with the accuracy of ~0.2%.

Why does the fuel level fluctuate even when we have not filled or consumed fuel from the tank ?
A.
The fuel in the tank expands and contracts with temperature variation. These are diurnal temperature variations or variations due to hot fuel being returned to the tank from the generator return line. Second the fuel sensor has 1% accuracy this means the level measured will fluctuate as the error fluctuates. Due to these temperature and error variations you can see fluctuation in your fuel level. Our system uses advance machine learning algorithms to reduce these fluctuations and system errors. For our algorithms to become active we need at least 15 days of data. You will see that such fluctuations will reduce as more and more data is acquired by the EnerygLogicIQ cloud.

How to choose between different kinds of sensors (Capacitive, Ultrasonic, or Magneto-Resistive) ?
A.

Capacitive measurement technology is always used with small length measurement and considered less accurate. Capacitive sensors give flexibility to be truncated as per the tank size. It should be used for tanks less than 1.5 meter in depth.

Ultrasonic is based on the sound wave technology and can be utilized for tanks between 1 to 8 meters in depth.

Magneto-Resistive are very accurate sensors but are comparatively expensive. They can be utilized for tanks up to 3 meters in depth.

I don't have cellular coverage in my area, or the coverage is weak. Is it a problem ?
A.

Device works on a cellular network connection and without adequate cellular coverage, the device will not be able to communicate to the server, however we provide a (HGA) High Gain Antenna for such application where network connectivity is poor. Please ensure you have adequate cellular coverage and choose wisely the Network service provider for that location.

To test the coverage and signal strength in your area, stand where your standby generator is located, you can check GSM signal strength in your Smart mobile phone at that place. If there is no coverage, which is a rare case, then this system will not work.

Why we need flow meter if fuel level sensor is already installed ?
A.

There will be use cases where individual generator fuel consumption is required but multiple tanks are feeding the generator or vice versa. In this case you will need to install a flow meter with the totalizer on each generator. You can also install the flow meter to provide the better accuracy of ±0.2% fuel consumption. Fuel level sensors usually have an accuracy of 2-3%. In tanks with large cross section area the absolute accuracy (in liters of fuel) can be low.

How long is data stored in EnergyLogicIQ-Gen ?
A.

Data will be logged in the internal memory of EnergyLogicIQ in case of communication failure like no network coverage, SIM failure etc. for 48 hours with a 10 minutes interval.

The fuel report shows an error of approximately 2% is it OK ?
A.

Combined error of system is around 2%

How do I know my generator is working ?
A.

You will get ON/OFF status of generator on the platform.

Where does the device take power from (Battery or the Mains) ?
A.

Device requires 24VDC Power supply (nominal), you can power it using mains by putting SMPS of adequate power rating or battery.

How will you detect the On/Off status of the generator if it does not have PFC ?
A.

If generator does not have PFC then there are further two ways to detect status : Relay status of generator controller and by installing power adapter on generator electrical panel.
